Layla
Hi! I am Layla, and I am psyched to welcome you to our classes at Roll Out Yoga! I obtained my 200-hour RYT certification in 2018 from the Yoga Institute in Houston, with a primary focus on Raja yoga - which is an inclusive form of yoga that can adapt and be applied to various yoga styles, such as Hatha yoga. Hatha yoga is what we will primarily practice during class, pairing postures with breath, mindful connection of your thoughts, and awareness of how your body is feeling. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, and my experience and knowledge invite a unique perspective on yoga - breaking down traditional misconceptions of WHO “should” do yoga and HOW they “should” do it. ANY body can do yoga by slowing down, tuning into themselves, turning down any unhelpful thoughts, and positioning their bodies in postures that release tightness and feel good for THEIR bodies.
I have been practicing yoga for over 13 years. I really value how a consistent yoga practice can round out an active fitness regimen. Whether it be by releasing tightness in muscles that may get strained from consistently pounding the pavement, or engaging in repetitive movements without tending to other areas that are equally important for developing a strong, functional body. I believe that holistically, not only is it key to have a balance between strength, stretching, and cardio; but it is also invaluable to check in to the mental aspects of both training and life. Using breath, awareness, and alignment, I will guide you through a gently paced flow to release anything that you are physically or mentally holding onto that no longer serves you, helping you get out of your own way to unleash your full potential…all while relaxing into the beats of a well-formed playlist that can vary from hip-hop, R&B, alternative, or Indie music - depending on the day and the focus. As Tupac said, “Don’t cheat yourself, instead treat yourself!”
